Ohio Attorney General certifies petition to put recreational marijuana on the ballot

After a brief upset last month when the submission was rejected that would propose recreational legalization in ohio, a new and updated petition has been resubmitted in Ohio. The initial submission was rejected due to an insufficient summary, but now the new proposal titled, "Marijuana Rights and Regulations" has been submitted and accepted by the Ohio Attorney General's Office this week. To be accepted it not only had to have a "fair and truthful" written summary on the proposal but also with it 1,000 signatures from voters in the state. Once approved by the Ohio Ballot Board advocates must then begin gathering signatures in 44 of 88 Ohio counties totalling up to 5% of the votes cast in the last election for governor.
On April 30, 2018, the Ohio Attorney General’s Office received a written petition to amend the Ohio Constitution, entitled "Marijuana Rights and Regulations" from legal counsel for the petitioning committee. The initial submission was rejected on April 9, 2018, due to deficiencies in the petition summary. The resubmitted petition was certified today as containing both the necessary 1,000 valid signatures from registered Ohio voters and a “fair and truthful” summary of the proposed amendment.
