Celebrities have become some of the most notable investors in the budding cannabis industry as legalization expands across the country and many businesses continue to grow. Joe Montana, the Hall of Fame quarterback from the San Francisco 49ers has decided to invest into the California group, Caliva, who intends to open a farm, distribution center, delivery service and retail store. Montana's support of the industry comes from the hope to provide relief to those who can benefit medically and help reduce opioid addiction and abuse, a problem he likely saw much of inside the NFL. Previously Joe Montana had also invested in a cannabis news and entertainment company called Herb.
The former San Francisco 49ers star said his venture capital firm was investing in an industry he says he believes "can provide relief to many people and can make a serious impact on opioid use or addiction." Some doctors recommend marijuana to treat opioid addiction and as an alternate relief for pain.
