Medical marijuana dispensary opens in Winter Haven

The city of Winter Haven, Florida opens it's first medical marijuana dispensary this week, Liberty Health Sciences. The company is also opening two more locations this week in PalmHarbor and Merrit Island making 7 total in Florida. The Winter Haven location is only the second medical marijuana dispensary in the county with the first having opened less than two months ago. Liberty Health Sciences is proud of their new Winter Haven location being the largest of their stores to the city's population of 39,000 people. Some of which previously had to drive all the way to Tampa to get their medication. Liberty says their average patient age is 55 years old with conditions like anxiety, PTSD, glaucoma, inflammation, HIV and many more.

The facility is just the second medical marijuana dispensary in the county. Curaleaf opened the first location in Lakeland on Aug. 30. The Winter Haven location, 1285 First St. S — across from The Regency — opened Wednesday.
“Medical cannabis is gaining momentum,” Scorsis said. “When you see the problems people are encountering with traditional drugs, consumers are looking for a safer alternative. Physicians are realizing that, too.”
