Town hall meeting in Des Plaines to focus on recreational marijuana legislation

Illinois residents have a short window coming up to both listen to the proposals being made about legalizing recreational marijuana and voice their opinions. A town hall meeting is planned for Des Plaines this coming Wednesday where state representatives will be making a presentation and holding a discussion on the "pros and cons of cannabis legalization". Residents will be able to attend and voice their input at Prairie Lakes Community Center Theater at 7pm. Earlier this year Cook County voters showed support for the initiative by a margin of 68% and advocates are hoping that voters continue to turn up and support the bill.

In a Facebook post, Murphy, whose 28th District includes portions of Park Ridge, Des Plaines and nine other municipalities, said the sponsors of a state bill to legalize recreational marijuana use will make a presentation and audience members will have a chance to ask questions.

Cassidy and Steans have filed legislation to legalize the purchase of marijuana for adults over age 21.
