Massachusetts' new recreational marijuana program finally began last week as the first two dispensaries opened their doors to customers and had a magnificent first five days of sales. The two shops in Northampton and Leicester sold a combined 56,380 cannabis products totalling a massive $2.2 million in sales for only one week. The biggest sales day was on Friday with sales reported at almost $480,000. The Cannabis Control Commission released these sales numbers this week without further comment, though some customers mentioned in a town hall meeting the traffic jams from the heavy traffic due to the excitement of the new shops. At the moment only those two dispensaries are open but more are expected in the next few months.

The stores in Northampton and Leicester began operations on Nov. 20 and combined sold $440,000 worth of cannabis that day. The busiest day was Friday after Thanksgiving when the stores reported nearly $480,000 in gross sales
