Few things can excite, captivate, and entertain people of all ages more comprehensively than a top-notch zoo. There’s just something about seeing those wild animals up close, learning about how they live, what they eat, and getting a closer look at them live and in the flesh that just can’t be matched by most other things. 

The Buffalo Zoo features a massive variety of animals like a gorilla troop, Indian rhinoceros, polar bears, tigers, and a whole host of other animals, both indoor and outdoor displays mimicking those animals' natural habitats, and the Delta Sonic Heritage Farm, a recreated 1850s-style farm with heritage breed animals you can touch!

On top of that, the wonderful Delaware Park is a beautiful, wide-open space full of open green spaces, tree-lined walking and jogging paths, and tennis and golf courses. This whole space is excellent to take advantage of while you’re in town.

Located smack dab in the middle of downtown Buffalo, this Gothic Revival-style cathedral is a must-see landmark for anyone visiting downtown Buffalo. Built in the mid-1800s by Bishop John Timon, the very first Catholic Bishop of Buffalo, the cathedral is also home to a Hook and Hastings Organ from 1877. Today, the cathedral has been a vital part of the city's recent revival and stands as a cornerstone of the Catholic community in Western New York. 

If you’re a big fan of architecture, old buildings with some religious affiliations, or just want to check out a remarkable building in the heart of downtown; this cathedral is a can’t-miss stop on your next trip to Buffalo.

While the Northeast is known for its brutally cold winters, especially in Buffalo off the shores of Lake Erie, there are still parts of the city dedicated to lush, green plant life. That’s where the Botanical Gardens come in! 

First off, there’s Olmsted’s 155-acre South Park, home to more than 2,000 different plants and trees. In 1984, a Victorian-style tri-domed glass conservatory building was built as the centerpiece of the gardens. Within that dome is an all-year-round orchid garden, a herb collection, a massive variety of other plants and options, and even a waterfall! 

Today, their family of 250 or so dedicated employees welcomes around 140,000 visitors per year, enjoying the plants, the architecture on the property, and a chance to learn a little bit more about the natural world. You should make sure you’re one of those visitors if you’re in town as well!

As any Buffalo local will tell you, the area has come leaps and bounds over the past few years. As part of that revitalization, Canalside in downtown Buffalo also received a face-lift! 

This area of town is known for green spaces, a relaxing atmosphere, and top-notch entertainment options for tourists and locals alike. This section in the city features a lovely park, chairs, and other seating options overlooking the canal, and even a waterside walkway to take in the gorgeous scenery. This newly revamped section of town even has seasonal events, like a giant outdoor skating rink during the winter months. 

If you’re interested in doing some shopping or getting a bite to eat, there are a bunch of options to choose from in this area of town as well! You can even pull up to the dock by boat if that’s your style!

While it might sound sad and morbid, the glorious Forest Lawn Cemetery is one of the best places to take a walk and spend some time outside. 

Founded in 1849, this 250 acres of the park is full of tall trees, water features like fountains and sculptures, and well-cared-for and paved walking paths to enjoy. While the park is excellent all year round, it’s particularly gorgeous in the autumn months when the leaves turn and the colors change. 

On top of the beautiful outdoor scenery, this cemetery is the final resting place for some famous people like former President Millard Fillmore, the 13th President of the U.S. So if you’re a history buff, his gravesite is worth a visit! 

You can’t go wrong with somewhere as full of beautiful sights, sounds, and exciting things as Forest Lawn!

If you’re a fan of modern architecture, then this next entry on the list is for you! The Darwin D. Martin House, designed by ultra-famous architecture Frank Lloyd Wright, is a must-see attraction in Buffalo. 

Located at the very edge of Delaware Park in a lovely little residential area, this house is considered one of Wright’s best creations from the early half of his career. This incredible prairie house sits on a sweeping complex of six interconnected buildings and has been deemed a historical landmark. 

Tour groups are widely available for those who want a closer look at the ins and out’s of the place, so make sure you book a tour on your next trip to Buffalo.

It was built in 1926 in the classic style of Neo-Spanish Baroque interior, complete with unique and ornate chandeliers, marble-lined walls, and a grand overall aesthetic. After all, there’s a reason why this building is designated as a National Historic Landmark. 

Over the years, this theater has hosted the likes of Frank Sinatra, the Marx Brothers, and various other acts. This theatre is a can’t miss spot.

Full of styles like Post-War American, European, 19th Century Impressionists, Post Impressionists, Cubism, Surrealism, and Constructivism from famous artists like Gorky, Pollock, Warhol, Renoir, van Gogh, Picasso, and Money, this museum is a one-stop-shop for everything the art lover could even imagine.

If you’re looking to do a little bit of shopping while in town, look no further than the Elmwood Village Shopping Strip. This urban hub full of unique shops, cafes, antique shops, pubs, galleries, and top-notch restaurants is one of the best places to pick some things up and splash cash in style. 

With popular visitor attractions just a stone's throw away from the action and a million different things to do, this part of town hums with creative energy and enthusiasm. It’s easy to spend a whole day shopping and popping in and out of various trendy shops.

It would be a shame to go to Buffalo without trying some of its most famous exports, the Buffalo wing. So, when in Rome, do as the Romans do, right? 

According to the locals, the Anchor Bar is where it all started for the buffalo wing. Not only are the wings delicious, but the shop is located conveniently near the heart of downtown Buffalo. We’re sure it goes without saying, but we recommend you try the wings!
