If you happen to be visiting in the colder months of the year, you’ll still be able to enjoy the beauty and splendor of all different types of wild animals all year round. Founded in 1914, the zoo is a must-stop on the many you’ll make while enjoying the city of Syracuse. Adding an edible or a quality smoke session before going in would be just the thing to take it to the next level!

If you’re on the hunt for a bit of greenery to break up the urban sprawl of city life, then his gorgeous park will be perfect for you. This 76 total acres community park features a swimming pool, athletic courts, and fields available for pick-up or individual workouts and a playground for the kids. Pretty much everything you could ask for from a beautiful little public park! 

According to their official city’s website, the rose garden was established to meet three requirements: harmony of color, the hardiness required by our climate, and such a wide variety of types and kinds as to be educational to the rose-lovers who visit our city. It sounds like a great time if you ask us.

Long ago, the city of Syracuse was seen as a significant crossroads for people in the region. Until recently, this town was your best bet for a hot meal and a place to rest your head before reaching the Erie Canal. Nowadays, however, the city is known less for its geography when compared to the dam and its major branch canals than for its impressively large airport and selection of top-notch medical cannabis dispensaries!

We highly recommend the Onondaga Creekwalk, a scenic waterside path through what’s known locally as “The Central Park of Central New York,” this path features tons of waterfront space, dog parks, skate parks, a massive playground area, a fishing pier and opportunities to play sports like volleyball, bocce, or shuffleboard.

If you’re a fan of quirky local history and fascinating trivia, this next entry on our list is for you! While it might not sound too much, check out the upside-down traffic signal that was once seen as an essential part of the city’s culture. And just like most things in Syracuse, the key to understanding it lies in its connection with the Erie Canal. 

The Irish portion of the city weren’t big fans of the traffic light installed in their part of town due to the red light being at the very top and the green light at the bottom, something they saw as representing the British being on top and the Irish at the bottom. So in response, they made a habit of smashing the red light. That meant the city had to spend a lot of money repairing and replacing it. 

After a while, the city decided to put the green light at the top to appease the Irish population. And that upside-down light is there and functional to this day!

Initially built in 1926 and meant to hold on about 3,000 people, the theatre was called at the time “the last word in theatrical ornateness and luxuriousness.” The inside of the theatre certainly lives up to that description.
