Mass. patients allotted more medical marijuana

Massachusett's medical marijuana program started last June. Legislators were wary of starting a marijuana program while still unsure if they could provide clean and safe drugs to patients, so they allowed the program to proceed but limited patients to 4.23 oz within a 2 month period. After this week's confirmation from the lab that the medical marijuana being used is safe, legislators were happy to increase patient bud limit to 10 oz, well over double the previous limit.

“By adopting this approach, we are ensuring that the standards . . . have been developed through a rigorous process with a high level of public assurance that they have been developed using a broadly representative body of science,” the department said in a letter sent Friday to dispensary owners.
