Marijuana might reverse heart failure, University of Hawaii study finds

Patients allover the world use medical cannabis to treat ailments of many varieties and now the researchers at the University of Hawaii have discovered one more, recovery from a damaged heart. Heart failure can be caused by many things like heart attacks, leaky valves and hypertension, and researchers found that people who use cannabis recover quicker from these types of damage to the heart. Cannabis can not only reverse the damage done, but it can even protect the heart from stress that makes the heart diseases worse. Heart disease on the Hawaiian islands is more prevalent for Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islanders marking the importance for continued research in the region. 

Alexander Stokes, assistant professor in cell and molecular biology at the UH John A. Burns School of Medicine, said the potential medical benefits of cannabis to treat heart disease are promising.
