How to Smoke Kief Infused Products: Bubble Hash, Moonrocks & Sunrocks
Published on 9/22/22
When we think of kief, the first thing we think of doing with it is likely packing it on top of bowls or into joints. There are various ways to smoke kief-infused products that are sure to get you very high, some of our favorites being Bubble Hash, Sunrocks, and Moonrocks. You may ask yourself, "how do you smoke moonrocks or sunrocks?" Fortunately for you, we've got the answers. If you're looking for how to smoke kief in new, exciting ways, you've come to the right place.
What Is Kief and How Is It Made?
Kief is a small, round crystalline formation found at the tip of a resin gland, which is part of the larger trichome. Trichomes are the hair-like structures that cover cannabis bud. Most of a cannabis plant's cannabinoids (THC and CBD) and terpenes are found within the trichomes, specifically where the kief forms. Because trichomes are so potent, most modern strains of cannabis have been bred to produce much more significant amounts of trichomes. Therefore, there is also a lot more kief on cannabis these days.
Kief can be separated from cannabis flower by using a grinder with a chamber specifically for collecting kief. When you put your flower into a grinder with a kief collection chamber, kief separates from the flower in the tiniest particles, which fits through the most undersized filters down to the very bottom where it collects for use. Once you have enough kief collected, you can use it in various ways.
Different Ways to Smoke Kief
This unique cannabis creation is a resin made by submerging cannabis buds into ice water until frozen, then filtering through a mesh or bubble bag. What sifts through the mesh is a trichome-rich crumble that's essential to a uniquely collected kief. The freshly wet Bubble Hash should then be placed on a screen and dried up to a week before use. Bubble Hash can contain anywhere from 35-80% THC, depending on the strain. Smoking Bubble Hash often results in minor bubbling at the top of your bowl, which is where it gets its name.
Smoke Using a Hand Pipe or Joint
Because Bubble Hash is much lighter and burns faster than regular flower, the best way to smoke Bubble Hash is by sprinkling it on top of a regular bowl of bud or even sprinkle it inside a joint. To do this properly, you'll want to pack your bowl with regular flower and add a generous portion of Bubble Hash on top. The only difference at that point is to ensure you don't put the flame directly in contact with the Bubble Hash, or else it's likely to burn. Once lit, how to smoke Bubble Hash is the same as smoking a pipe filled with traditional cannabis.
Higher-end Bubble Hash can be dabbed like rosin in a traditional dab rig. Unlike smoking it in a pipe or bong, this is a great way to smoke kief without weed. To do this, heat your dab nail for roughly 60-90 seconds, then let it cool for about 30 seconds. Then, add your Bubble Hash to the nail, inhale, and enjoy! The process is almost identical to a traditional dab session - the only difference is that a little more residue might be left on the nail afterward.
A combination of three different forms of THC, Moonrocks are a potent concoction that offers the heavy hit of a concentrate with the flavor and aroma of traditional flower. Moonrocks are made by combining flower, hash oil, and kief. To make Moonrocks, you cover cannabis bud in hash oil and then roll it in an abundance of kief. Moonrocks are usually around 50% THC, allowing this concentration to change depending on the strain and the amount of hash oil and kief you use. Once you've got your Moonrocks, there are a couple of ways how to smoke moonrocks.
Smoke Using a Hand Pipe
You don't want to roll your Moonrocks into a joint because they are much more wet and sticky than regular flower, resulting in an uneven, difficult burn. Because of this, glassware is the best way to smoke Moonrocks. First, you'll want to cut your kief-coated bud into four to eight pieces (depending on the size of the nug). Then fill your bowl with regular flower and add the Moonrock chunks to the top of your packed bowl. It may take a little longer to light and keep a cherry, but once you get it burning, you're good to take a hit and enjoy the potent side effects!
Smoke Using a Bong
Very similar to smoking using a hand pipe, smoking with a bong gives your moon rocks the best chance of lighting and keeping a cherry. To smoke your Moonrocks using a bong, you'll cut them into four to eight pieces (depending on the size of the nug), then you'll fill your bowl with regular flower and top with Moonrock chunks. Then, you light like normal, take a deep, extra intense hit, and enjoy the immediate high.
Very similar to Moonrocks in many ways, Sunrocks are cannabis buds covered in sticky cannabis concentrate and sprinkled with kief. The difference is that, unlike Moonrocks, Sunrocks dry and get harder, look golden and shiny, and usually are used with flower, concentrate, and kief from the same strain. Sunrocks typically contain anywhere from 60-80% THC, meaning they hit even harder than Moonrocks.
Smoke Using a Hand Pipe
Like Moonrocks, Sunrocks don't do well in joints because they are much more wet and sticky than regular flower. If you want to know how to smoke kief in a bowl, Sunrocks offer a great chance to do just that. You'll cut your Sunrock into four to eight pieces (depending on the size of the nug), fill your bowl with regular flower, and then add the Sunrock chunks to the top of your packed bowl. Then you smoke like you would a bowl packed with Moonrocks!
Smoke Using a Bong
Like using a hand pipe, smoking with a bong is a great way to consume Sunrocks. To smoke your Sunrocks using a bong, cut them into four to eight pieces (depending on the size of the nug), fill your bowl with regular flower, and then top with Sunrock chunks. After that, you'll light and hit just like you would a bowl full of Moonrocks. If this isn't the best way to smoke Sunrocks, it's at least one of the best.
