Illinois growers get green light to ship marijuana to stores

Illinois' medical marijuana sales are scheduled to begin early next week, and growers have just received instructions on how and when to transport product to the newly licensed dispensaries. The state's market is strict and secure in hopes to keep legal drugs from entering the black market. A seed to sale tracking system will be able to follow marijuana plants anywhere to ensure they reach legitimate patients. The state has only licensed 8 dispensaries so far to serve only 3,300 registered patients.

"I'm certain there are a lot of people on the fence" about Illinois' pilot program "and people who are staunchly prohibitionist," Vo said. "Accountability, transparency and safety are things both sides can get behind."
