New York's Medical Marijuana Industry is Lighting Up Slowly

New York's medical marijuana program is still fresh after a month in with only 800 patients registered and not even 400 doctors. With the strict regulatory system, marijauna buds and edibles are banned, leaving concentrated oils as th primary method. Advocates hope legislators will expand the limited list of illnesses to qualify for the program in hopes to bring in more patients that can benefit from cannabis, 

“I won’t say that I’ve been waiting eagerly for the approval of marijuana to fill a large gap in my toolbox to help my patients,” said Gonsky, an oncologist at Kings County Hospital whose patients often experience nausea, pain and lack of appetite due to chemotherapy. “But it may turn out that it’s more helpful than I anticipate.”
