Resolution asks for Indiana medical marijuana study

Indiana may not have a functioning medical marijuana program yet but there are lawmakers working to make it happen. The Indiana House Public Health committee recently passed a resolution that asks a state study committee to examine the possiblities of medical marijuana. The resolution also asked the DEA to reschedule cannabis down from Schedule 1 to Schedule 2 acknowleding it's medical value and allowing it to be studied while also keeping it heavily controlled. The study committee would not only examine the pros and cons of legalization on the state but also specifically the therapeutic value of the compounds inside marijuana. The bill now awaits final approval fromthe Indiana General Assembly.

An Indiana study committee would be asked to look at medical marijuana under a resolution unanimously passed Wednesday by the House Public Health Committee.

There is increasing science-based evidence that marijuana and its derivatives may have various medically useful applications, according to the resolution by Rep. Matt Lehman, R-Berne.
