Atlanta police will no longer ask about marijuana use on applications

Published on 3/11/19

Applying to be a police officer in Atlanta, Georgia used to bring into question the applicant's marijuana consumption within the last two years, but after the changing public perception and losing too many qualified applicants the local police department has decided to pull that qualification from the application. Officials for the department say active officers cannot smoke cannabis, however previous use is no longer disqualifying. The question now is how long before other police departments follow suit.

The Atlanta Police Department said it lost too many qualified candidates when it asked if the person used marijuana in the past two years. So, the department is doing away with that box to check on the application.
