Republican lawmakers in Texas have signed as co-authors to a bill that decriminalizes marijuana possession under an ounce. These few individuals are trying to change the republican party's mentality and realize that decriminalizing is actually tough on crime and better for taxpayers. Another bill is in progress in the Texas house that would remove marijuana from any mention in criminal status.

“If we can intercept these people before they get in the system and before they have a real drug problem and get them some help and keep them out of that criminal justice system then everybody wins,” Hughes said. “It’s good for them, it saves the tax payers money, everybody wins.”
