Katie Couric Explains the Status of Marijuana Legalization

Published on 8/6/15

Public opinion of marijuana has taken years to become a positive majority like today, but it wasn't that long ago that mainstream media was bashing marijuana on live TV. Before the days of promoting pot policy reform, major news stations would put quotes around the word "medical", undermining patients who truly need the drug for relief. It wasn't until stories by Dr. Sanjay Gupta were released, denouncing his past beliefs of the evil marijuana, and using research and facts to become a major supporter of medical marijuana. Even journalists like Katie Couric have saved face by reporting on current accurate research of marijuana and letting some Americans see for the first time that cannabis is not the problem.

When you weigh the pros and cons of marijuana legalization, especially in relation to more dangerous illicit drugs or even legal substances like alcohol and tobacco, the marijuana movement doesn’t need any propaganda in its favor. We only need the truth and if Katie Couric is any indication of the future of the media’s coverage of marijuana, the momentum for reform will only increase.
