Feds Stick To Court Argument That Marijuana Is Dangerous

Despite Obama's recent legislation prohibiting federal interference with state medical marijuana laws, his administration insists that marijuana stay a Schedule 1 substance next to heroin, ecstasy and LSD. Although 23 states currently have legal medical marijuana programs, some insist there is still no medical value to the plant. Defendants argue that many studies have been done proving benifits of marijuana, but the government refuses to approve such studies, as well as refusing independant researchers.
While there may be “some dispute among doctors as to whether marijuana is medicine,” there is ample evidence to support the government’s conclusion that “this psychoactive, addictive drug is not accepted as safe for medical use at this time, even with medical supervision,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Gregory Broderick wrote.
