Bernie Sanders Calls for an End to Federal Prohibition on Marijuana

Bernie Sanders may be the candidate that legal marijuana needs. Not only is he in favor of state's rights and the freedom to legalize marijuana if they choose, but he is in favor of protecting non-violent citizens from life-changing marijuana arrests. Like most people, Sanders agrees that marijuana has no place alongside heroin as a schedule 1 substance, and if he follows through on his beliefs with legislation, it will be the first of it's kind in the Senate at an attempt to end federal prohibition of marijuana.

"In my view, the time is long overdue for us to remove the federal prohibition on marijuana," Sanders said to cheers. "In my view, states should have the right to regulate marijuana the same way that state and local laws now govern the sale of alcohol and tobacco."
