Tampa’s marijuana decriminalization law begins

Published on 3/31/16

Last month, Tampa legislators passed an ordinance decriminalizing possession of under 20 grams of marijuana. The law went into effect April 1, but this is no joke! Instead of being arrested, authorities will issue a citation, starting at $75 and increasing with each additional offense. If caught with over 20 grams it will be considered a felony criminal offense.

Under the measure, people who possess 20 grams or less of marijuana will be issued a $75 citation for the first offense, and a $150 citation for the second offense. Citations will be $300 or more for three or more offenses.
