Massachusetts pot dispensaries sold $400k in marijuana on first day of recreational sales

The first two recreational marijuana dispensaries in Massachusetts opened this week with an amazing first day of sales reaching over $400,000. Between the two shops they saw about 3,000 customers who purchased almost 11,000 individual products. Though the recreational marijuana program was approved 2 years ago and started about 4 months behind schedule, officials are thrilled with the turnout of opening day. Experts are predicting incoming tax revenue from the program to reach around $63 million during the 2019 fiscal year. Marijuana products in Massachusetts are taxed at 17% plus any locally imposed taxes.Massachusetts became the 7th state to begin selling cannabis to adults outside of medical purposes this week and the first on the east coast of the United States.
