Where to visit in arlington

Clarendon

Source: Stay Arlington

Arlington consists of a handful of easily differentiable neighborhoods and districts that all provide a unique spin on the city’s infectious energy. Clarendon is Arlington’s nightlife center, where late nights and day-long excursions are part of the daily culture. This is the part of town you want to visit if you’re looking for local beer (check out Courthaus Social) and live music. It’s equal parts fine-dining and hole-in-the-wall dives – some of our top picks for this neighborhood include Genji Express, Whitlow’s on Wilson, and The Pinemoor. It’s the ideal place for people-watching with such a diverse community of shoppers, bar-hoppers, and foodies livening the streets every day of the week, but it’s also a great place for family outings, with the outdoor malls (i.e., Crossing Clarendon), parks, and family-friendly restaurants throughout the district.

Pentagon City

Clarendon might be where the nightlife is found, but Pentagon City is the place to go if you want to find everything Arlington has to offer. From memorials and museums to massive shopping centers and every type of restaurant you could imagine, this neighborhood is the perfect place to spend a weekend day or enjoy a date night with endless options. Pentagon City is just a few blocks around the massive Fashion Centre shopping complex, but within those blocks, you have four beautiful parks, including Hopper Memorial and Virginia Highlands Park, and there’s also easy access to the George Washington Memorial Parkway and Long Bridge Park. Of course, on top of everything else, it’s right next to the Potomac and Washington, D.C.

Crystal City

Located right next to Pentagon City, Crystal City is an urban neighborhood surrounded by city parks and trails. It is the place to be if you’re a fan of clean, open walking spaces, outdoor activities like rock climbing (Earth Treks is a must for climbing enthusiasts), biking, and running. A full day can be spent walking along the streets of Crystal City with so many places to shop, eat, and drink. The Potomac Social Tavern offers local drinks and soul food watering hole style, The Freshman is probably the best place in Arlington to split your time between a handcrafted cocktail and locally-roasted coffee, and Mezeh Mediterranean Grill is always serving up some refreshing grub. For a fun day out next to the Potomac with easy access to all the trails, beer, and good food you could want, Crystal City is the place to go.

The Arlington National Cemetery

Internationally renowned, the Arlington National Cemetery is a must-stop for anyone visiting Arlington. This hallowed ground covers over 600-acres to honor those who have served in America’s military. This stunning landscape is the final resting place to over 400,000 veterans and their family members, along with well-kept trails will help guide you throughout this active memorial. You’ll also find the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on the grounds, where you can watch the changing of the guard (a quiet moment of mourning and reflection you should absolutely experience).

Theodore Roosevelt Island

Built in the 1930s, this living memorial pays tribute to the national parks Theodore Roosevelt (known as “the conservation president”) established. The island is now visited by millions every year and is detailed with crisscrossing nature trails through the island’s forest. You can also rent kayaks and enjoy the surrounding Potomac River at your leisure. If you’re a fan of nature and runs through the woods, Theodore Roosevelt Island should definitely be on your list of places to visit.

The Pedal Saloon

Arlington is a gorgeous city with beautiful weather most of the year – it’s especially nice spring through fall, the perfect time for hitting the streets and grabbing a beer or two. Pedal Saloon will help you and your friends enjoy the gorgeous Virginia weather and hopping from bar to bar in style. You’ve probably seen similar setups in other cities, but there’s just something special about experiencing those iconic Arlington streets on a moving pub.

They also sell edibles, concentrates, pre-rolls, and smoking accessories to qualifying medical marijuana patients. Where to Shop / Arts in arlington

The Fashion Centre at Pentagon City

Source: Stay Arlington

We mentioned earlier that the Fashion Centre is what the Pentagon City District is built around, and that’s honestly an understatement. The Fashion Centre at Pentagon City is the shopping destination in Arlington and has a major impact on the larger area. With over 140 stores and restaurants, this place has it all. There are staples like Banana Republic and Forever 21, higher-end stores like Coach and Calzedonia, places to eat like Matchbox and Yong Kang Street, and niche shops like the Old Virginia Tobacco Co. If you need a place to stay, there’s also a Ritz-Carlton built right into the shopping center – you could easily spend an entire visit in Virginia without leaving the premises.

DEA Museum

Source: Stay Arlington

Since you’re reading a city guide from a marijuana website, it seems only fitting to put this museum on the list. Take a look through our blog and you’ll see that we’ve covered quite a few topics that touch on the Drug Enforcement Administration and the enforcement of anti-cannabis laws in America - we don’t shy away from the unsavory truth that often accompanies those topics. So, while you’re in Virginia, check out the official DEA Museum to get a closer look at how they tell the story. This museum has exhibits that span the length of every major drug in America, with new exhibits still being added. Fortunately, admission is free and you can take the visit as seriously or lightly as you want.

This contemporary visual art house has been around since 1976 and is housed in a century-old elementary schoolhouse. Spanning almost 20,000 square feet, this collection of regional art pieces serves two purposes - it is both an art gallery and an art studio. Run as a nonprofit, there are several rooms for classes and all their material goes toward supporting and raising awareness for local contemporary artists. Local art, a worthwhile mission, and a historical location make this a pretty great destination for anyone interested in the art scene. It’s free to visit but you can rent their studio spaces and donate any amount you want upon entry.

Where to Eat in arlington

Pupatella

Source: ARL Now

While Arlington might not be known for its pizza, this place puts it on the map. They only have five locations, all Virginia-based, but you should give the original North Arlington location a try if you get the chance. Pupatella specializes in Neapolitan-style pizza and makes everything in their massive wood-fire stoves manufactured in Naples, Italy. This place is the real deal, which becomes even more apparent when you actually try their food. We highly recommend their Margherita DOC and their Onion Tart pizzas for your first go-around, but there’s nothing on their menu that won’t hit the spot.

Mussel Bar & Grille

Source: Mussel Bar

With an eating space that feels more like an indoor garden than a restaurant, everything about this place exudes freshness and taste. Ambar serves Balkan food; which, if you haven’t had before, you need to experience as soon as possible and Ambar is the perfect place for your first time. Recognized by the Michelin Guide (kind of a big deal), this place serves up incredible dishes such as Lamb Lasagna, Steak Tartar, and taste-defying charcuterie platters. If you’ve got room in your trip for a new experience and some fine dining, we highly recommend Ambar.
