What is a Honey Blunt and How Do I Roll One?

Humans and cannabis have been linked for thousands of years. Researchers have found that ancient civilizations used cannabis as part of rituals and medically, while modern-day cannabis advocates use this incredible plant for anything between relaxation and easing nagging aches and pains after a workout.

However, no matter how you use cannabis, the way you were introduced to it is likely similar to the way everyone else did. For most people, their first experience with cannabis comes in the form of either a blunt or a joint. After all, that makes sense considering those forms are often the easiest to make, transport discreetly, and share amongst friends.

After a while, however, rolling the same boring old blunt or joint gets a little old. So you'll naturally look for ways to spice it up. After all, there are only so many ways you can roll a blunt or seek out some unique rolling papers before things start to get a bit stale during your sessions. Once you know how to roll a blunt, the rest of the process is just a means to an end. That's where a honey blunt comes in!

Don't overthink this one too much, you guys. Sometimes names can be deceiving, but this time it's pretty much as straightforward as it gets. A honey blunt is a blunt that either has honey rolled on the exterior or slathered all over the interior with the bud.

For the cannabis OG's out there who were smoking and rolling all the way back in the '80s, a honey blunt isn't exactly a new concept. For the newbies, this concept might be new and refreshing. While the honey blunt might have gone out of style, we here at Where's Weed want to encourage you guys to bring it back into the mainstream!

So simply put, it's when you put honey on a blunt for added flavor or enjoyment. But how and why exactly does putting honey on or in your blunt improve the experience?

The Pros and Cons of Honey Blunts

Well, first and foremost, in times of COVID it's probably best to swap as little spit as possible during a smoke session. For many, however, the only way to properly roll and close up a blunt is to do so with spit. Honey blunts offer an alternative.

Instead of slobbering all over your next blunt wrapper, just use some honey. The sticky substance will do the job of sealing that blunt up tightly again after you add the cannabis of your choice to it. No mess, no fuss, and no spit exchanged.

On top of those factors, adding honey to your blunts will add a sweet, light flavor to the smoke. For blunts, which can often be a bit harsher than the standard joint due to the tobacco inside, that little bit of sweetness and added flavor might take the edge off of harsh blunt smoke.

It's worth noting that when you're adding honey to your blunts, you should be using raw, unprocessed, or organic honey instead of the highly processed stuff you'll find in the little bear containers at the grocery store. Smoking those processed sugars and preservatives isn't great for you, so to minimize exposure to those you should always use top-notch honey. So as long as you're willing to seek out and find the good stuff, it's perfectly safe to smoke honey blunts every now and then!

If you're looking to enjoy a honey blunt of your own, you'll need a few basic ingredients. Here's a list of the supplies you'll need:

  • Some dried, ground-up cannabis flower
  • A blunt wrapper, likely a Backwoods or Dutch Masters
  • A filter tip
  • Some raw organic honey

Once you have those ingredients, you'll be well on your way to rolling and smoking a honey blunt of your own. Here's how to put honey on a blunt:

Step 1: Open Up the Blunt Wrapper and Add Your Cannabis

The first few steps to creating a wonderful and tasty honey blunt aren't that much different than rolling your standard blunt. You'll need to get a wrapper, open it up, grind up your cannabis flower, then put the flower inside the wrapper.

Pretty straightforward so far, right?

Step 2: Add Your Filter and the Honey

Once you have your wrapper open and your ground-up bud added, you can add the next few things to your blunt. You'll want to throw a filter in as well since blunt smoke is oftentimes harsher than the standard joint.

Next, you'll want to throw some honey on the blunt. You'll use the honey inside the blunt as a substitute for the spit to seal it. You'll also want to drizzle some over the top of the dried cannabis you just added to improve the flavor throughout the smoke session.

Once you do that, seal the blunt up again.

Step 3: Get Creative!

After you finish step 2, the hardest parts of assembling your honey blunt are done. If you're feeling adventurous and looking to take that honey blunt to the next level, however, this third step is for you.

If you have some extra ground cannabis from inside your grinder or even some kief collected up in there, take a little bit more honey and coat the outside of the blunt with it. Once you do that, roll the blunt in the extra bud or kief you have laying around.

And just like that, you have a kief blunt to enjoy! So not only with your blunt smoking experience be a little bit sweeter than before, it can get kicked up to even higher of a notch by adding more cannabis onto your original blunt itself.
