Bordering the west side of the Potomac River, Arlington is a major Virginia cultural hub located just across from Washington D.C. Most commonly known for national landmarks such as the Arlington Cemetery, Fort Myer, the Pentagon, and close proximity to the nation’s capital, Arlington also boasts plenty of modern attractions worth visiting (and staying) for. It is a city of young professionals, clean urban landscaping, nightlife districts, and cozy third-wave coffee shops. Killer craft brewing and outdoor patios are big, as are trails and city parks for outdoor recreation.
Arlington is also on the verge of welcoming marijuana onto the scene. In May, House Bill 972 was signed into law, which made Virginia the 27th state to decriminalize up to one ounce of marijuana. In July, the possession of medical marijuana was made legal for those registered in the state’s medical marijuana program, and Virginia is also highly anticipated to soon legalize recreational marijuana. Virginia Governor Ralph Northam has been an outspoken advocate for legalization over the last few years and made it a high-priority talking point in 2020, pushing for complete legalization in 2021. So, while Arlington currently doesn’t have any operational dispensaries, medical or recreational, we are looking forward to the upcoming year. Check-in here for Virginia marijuana policy updates!
