Law makers take big step towards legalizing marijuana in Texas

In the last 10 years an estimated $100 million has been wasted on arresting and prosecting non-violent marijuana offenders in Houston alone. Polls are showing Texas voters want marijuana to be legal for adults, as well as tax dollars no longer supporting normal people being locked up. The bill was just passed through the state's House of Reps. Jurisprudence Committee with a 5-2 vote, but some believe it will be stopped in it's tracks soon enough as the republican party's stance on marijuana has not yet changed.

“It's just not what the public wants in terms of public safety,” says Ogg.

What the public wants according to recent polls is marijuana to be legal for adult Texans.

According to a statewide survey conducted by Public Policy Polling in the fall of 2013 nearly three out of five Texas voters support making marijuana legal for adults and regulating it like alcohol.
