Marijuana Legalization Nebraska: Senate Debates Medical Cannabis, Some Lawmakers Skeptical
Published on May 6, 2015
This week Nebraska legislators debated and heard testimonies from mothers of sick children who had no other option but to turn to medical cannabis. Seeing no other option to give these children full lives, many legislators were swayed into supporting this bill. If passed, it would allow patients with certian conditions (cancer, glaucoma and HIV) to apply for a medical card allowing them to possess up to 6 ounces of marijuana and grow up to 12 plants at a time.
"It was heart-wrenching to hear the testimony” of mothers whose children suffer from epilepsy, Garrett, a Republican, told senators, the Journal Star reported. "There are a lot of sick and ailing Nebraskans who are out of options. … If you would have told me a year ago that I would be sponsoring a medical marijuana bill as my priority legislation, I would have told you [that] you were nuts.”
