Strains to Pair with Your Boba Tea Order
Published on 9/23/22
One of the best things about cannabis is that you can pair it with almost anything. We've already gone over the best strains to pair with your coffee, so why not talk about what cannabis goes best with boba tea? Boba tea is delicious and sweet, but it tastes even better when you're riding an enjoyable high.
What Is Boba Tea?
Boba tea is a cold-served beverage that consists of flavored tea, a milk or fruit flavor, and edible pearls. The thing that sets boba apart from other drinks is the pearls, which are chewy, delicious, and traditionally made from tapioca. There are also boba teas made with popping boba, which is usually filled with fruit that bursts out of the gel-like skin when chewed (think gushers in your tea). Boba tea is vegetarian (no gelatin in the boba pearls even though they have a Jell-O, gummy consistency), and fruit-based boba teas without milk are often vegan.
There are many different yet familiar boba tea flavors like cannabis (although not quite as prolific). The most popular boba tea flavors include taro, strawberry, chai, matcha, brown sugar, classic milk, Vietnamese coffee, jasmine tea, mango, banana, caramel, honey, and black tea. These different flavors, you can imagine, can pair beautifully with cannabis if you have the right strain. Want to heighten your boba experience with some weed? Our Favorite Cannabis and Boba Tea Combos
Wedding Cake & Taro Milk Tea
This Sativa strain is incredibly high in THC and has a potent, sweet flavor profile. At roughly 24% THC on average, this strain has surprisingly mellow effects, resulting in a relaxed yet euphoric high that calms both the body and the mind. It's used medicinally for treating chronic pain, appetite loss, and insomnia. This incredibly tasty strain is called Wedding Cake for a reason - it has a sweet, doughy aroma and tastes sugary with heavy vanilla and light sour undertones. These sweet flavors mix beautifully with taro boba, which has an earthy, chocolatey, slightly coconut/vanilla flavor.
Jillybean & Mango Milk Tea
With 16% THC, Jillybean is a hybrid strain known for producing a euphoric, uplifting high that's great for daytime productivity. It promotes creativity, won't get you too sleepy, and provides subtle energy that brings clarity and focus. It's used medicinally to treat anxiety and depression. It boasts a fun flavor profile of orange, mango, citrus, and bright florals. Mango milk tea heightens this strain's already intense fruit-forward flavors, bringing an intense flavor punch that's a lot of fun when high. Additionally, because this strain is so great for social settings, it's also a perfect pairing for a boba tea run with friends.
Lemon Thai & Thai Milk Tea
At 22% THC, this Sativa strain produces an energetic, overtly cerebral effect perfect for creativity and introspection. It's used medicinally to help treat anxiety and depression and has grown in popularity over the last few years. It gets its name from the overwhelming lemon & lime aromas and heavy citrus and minty flavors. These rich acidic notes mix beautifully with the sweet and floral Thai milk tea, cutting the warm spices and more decadent flavors with citrus bliss.
Tahoe OG Kush & Matcha Milk Tea
The first Indica on our list, Tahoe OG Kush, is a top-shelf hybrid with roughly 21% THC. It's an incredible nighttime strain because of how relaxed and sleepy it can make you feel - it is a full-body experience that's perfect for right before bed. It has an earthy aroma with pine and lemon tasting notes that pair beautifully with matcha milk tea, which is creamy and sharp with earthy green tea flavors. The earthy pine from Tahoe OG Kush and the sharper, earthy flavors from the boba mix wonderfully and heighten the flavor profiles.
OG Kush & Classic Milk Tea
Another Sativa, this iconic strain produces a calming but euphoric effect that's equally a head and body high. It's excellent for reducing stress and is often used to treat chronic pain and anxiety. OG Kush is known for its earthy, almost skunky aroma and woody pine flavors. Classic milk tea is sweet and super creamy - it's almost too rich - so the earthy, more hearty flavors of OG Kush help cut the intensity and provide a perfect pairing.
Sugar Cookie & Brown Sugar Milk Tea
Sugar Cookie is a hybrid strain with full-body calming effects that are excellent for bringing out a restful, deep sleep. Because of its effects, this strain is commonly used to treat chronic pain and insomnia. Its flavors are also incredibly relaxing, with a mix of sweet berries and a fruit-forward aroma. Brown sugar milk tea is, as you'd expect, a very sugary rich drink - Sugar Cookie brings a new boost of flavor, like putting fresh fruit in a bowl of brown sugar oatmeal. Needless to say, it's a delicious combo.
Blue Dream & Honeydew Milk Tea
Over the last few years, Blue Dream has become one of the most popular Sativa strains on the market. It has roughly 18% THC and is known for bringing about a creative high that heightens your energy and mood. Because of these effects, it's commonly used to treat stress and depression. As its name suggests, its flavor profile is heavily blueberry forward, with undertones of other sweet berries. Honeydew milk tea, like its name suggests, tastes very sweet and honey-forward. And as you likely know, blueberries and honey are a perfect combo. No other explanation is needed for why this is an ideal pairing.
