Modesto, California is a quaint city located in the Central Valley with plenty to do. One step in the city and you’ll feel as if you’ve gone back in time. With a significant focus on mid-century modern architecture (and an Architectural Festival centered on it), it’s easy to feel like you’ve stepped back into the 1950s. Famed filmmaker George Lucas was born in Modesto, and the town was the inspiration for his American Graffiti film. Beautiful murals adorn the town’s walls that harken back to those days. To step further back in time, head to the McHenry Mansion and Museum, a mansion built in the 1880s where you’ll find a beautiful display of the area’s history.
While California may seem like a cannabis mecca to many, two-thirds of the municipalities do not allow marijuana sales of any kind. Luckily for visitors and residents, Modesto has welcomed cannabis sales and the market is growing in the area. While you won’t find any dispensaries in the middle of downtown Modesto, there are plenty of options to choose from nearby. Recreational consumers over the age of 21 may purchase up to 1 ounce of marijuana flower or 8 grams of concentrates at a time. Medicinal consumers with a valid MMJ card may purchase up to 2 ounces at a time. Note that dispensary hours vary, so be sure to check out the website from your favorite dispensary nearby before going.
