Santa Maria is surrounded by natural beauty and often known for its incredible wine. The Los Padres National Forest is only several miles to the east, and directly bordering the city is the Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes that attract visitors year-round. Nestled against the surrounding mountains, Santa Maria can most easily be defined by its wineries, vineyards that stretch on for miles. It’s one of California’s most prolific wine regions and there is no shortage of tours and delicious tastings to be had. To the west, you’ll find dozens of beautiful beaches and other seaside towns perfect for day trips. Santa Maria is a beautiful getaway that has something to offer for everyone.
Santa Maria is located in Santa Barbara County, which passed ordinances on February 27, 2018, to allow for the commercial cultivation and distribution of marijuana throughout the county. While California legalized medical marijuana in 1996 and recreational marijuana in 2016, many cities throughout the state still do not allow for the cultivation or sale of weed. Soon after the county passed its ordinances in 2018, the city of Santa Maria passed its own that bans any commercial cultivation, manufacturing, processing, and sale of cannabis products. Therefore, if you want to purchase marijuana and are in Santa Maria, you must travel to one of the nearby cities where it’s available. It is legal to travel in-state with up to one ounce of marijuana in your possession. However, please note that it is illegal to drive under the influence of marijuana. Additionally, it is still legal to grow up to six cannabis plants for personal use, so long as it is indoor and follows all state-wide regulations.
