Located northeast of Boulder and named for its beautiful view of Colorado “Fourteener”, Long’s Peak, Longmont was founded in 1871. After the Colorado Central Railroad arrived in Boulder in 1877, the city began to flourish as an agricultural community. The city’s agricultural roots are still seen today, with the longest-running Farmer’s Market season in Colorado. If you love craft beers, this town is for you! Ranked third on the list of most craft breweries per capita, Longmont’s Brehop Trolley allows riders to hop on and off at various locations around the city. Maybe you’re looking for something a bit more extreme? Longmont is also home to Mile-Hi Skydiving, a facility that allows daredevils to take a jump near the scenic Rocky Mountains from 17,500 feet above sea level. Finally, if you’re hoping for some fun for the entire family, Downtown Longmont has tons to offer for everyone. Art galleries, shopping and restaurants are just a few of the entertainment options this district has to offer.
Unlike much of Colorado, Longmont waited until 2017 to allow the sale of both medical and recreational marijuana within city limits. Adults over the age of 21 may have possession of up to 1 ounce of marijuana and those with a medical marijuana card may have up to 2 ounces. The city of Longmont also approved home-grow regulations, allowing each person a personal limit of six plants that grow indoors or outdoors in an enclosed, locked space. It is also important to note that it is illegal to smoke in public, and consumption should only happen on private property with the permission of the owner. Similarly, driving while high is subject to DUI charges under Colorado law.
