New Orleans, or the Big Easy, is the largest city in Louisiana and is located on the Mississippi River and Lake Pontchartrain. New Orleans is famed for its jazz music, unique history, voodoo practices, and of course - Mardi Gras. The city has so much to do for locals and tourists alike, and you’ll be sure to leave satisfied. We highly recommend taking a walking tour of the French Quarter to learn all about the origins of the city and the many interesting events that have taken place. If you want a more spooky tour, the city offers plenty of ghost tours to explore the darker side of the city’s history. If you want to explore on your own, start in Jackson Square and wander through the many narrow streets before going to Bourbon Street to drink one of the famed Hurricanes and people watch. New Orleans is known for its Cajun food, so be sure to grab a bowl of gumbo, a po boy, and some jambalaya before heading home.
Unfortunately for those looking to light up in the Big Easy, marijuana is only legal for state residents with a valid medical marijuana card. While the state legalized medical cannabis in 2015, it only became available for purchase in 2019 and there are just a few dispensaries near New Orleans. While it is not recommended to consume marijuana in New Orleans without an MMJ card, the city did recently decriminalize it, making it a small fine for those caught with it. Regardless of having an MMJ card or not, consumers should not smoke in a public place and should never drive after consuming marijuana.
