Five miles northwest of Michigan’s geographic center, the city of Cadillac has nature calling! Experience an idyllic “small town,” while reconnecting with mother nature’s roots in Cadillac. If summer is your season, come boat at Lake Cadillac or fish in Lake Mitchell. Additionally, hiking, camping and mountain biking are also popular! Cadillac’s eastern border features the Manistee National Forest, giving the city nearly a half-million acres of trees. When fall hits and the leaves start to change colors, hiking and hunting are incredibly popular in this region. During the Great Depression in 1936, the U.S. Forest Service and Civilian Conservation Corps developed the Caberfae Ski Area for future economic development. Because of this, Winter is Cadillac’s busiest season with skiers, ice-fishers and snowmobilers galore found at the resort. Furthermore, each winter features the North American Snowmobile Festival (NASF) on frozen Lake Cadillac.

Just like many other cities in Michigan, Cadillac legalized recreational marijuana sales in 2019. Medical marijuana has been legal since 2008, but the Cadillac City Council has voted to keep laws similar to other cities around the state. According to Michigan law, adults 21 and over can up to 2.5 ounces on their person, and up to 10 ounces locked at home. Please keep in mind that smoking weed in public is illegal in Cadillac, and you should only smoke on private property with the permission of the owner. Similarly, driving while smoking is also illegal and subject to Michigan DUI laws.
