Marquette is located on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, nestled alongside the stunning coast of Lake Superior, surrounded by national forests and scenic mountainscapes. Developed as a vital mining and port town, Marquette now enjoys an idyllic location that allows the city to thrive despite its size (it’s the largest city on the Upper Peninsula with only a population a little north of 20,000). The surrounding landscape brings tourism into Marquette year around, since it’s the perfect central point for outdoor adventures such as hiking, biking, fishing, waterfalling, and skiing. And while the wilderness around Marquette is breathtaking, the small city itself also has a lot of character to offer, including a surprising amount of first-class breweries, great patios and lake-side views, small boutiques, several high-end dispensaries, and plenty of other local hot spots.
The marijuana scene in Marquette, like most every other city in Michigan, is growing. However, there is a unique cannabis culture in Marquette, since the local college, Northern Michigan University, has a Medical Plant Chemistry degree focusing on cannabis. Even though Marquette only began accepting recreational marijuana license applications in 2019, the adult-only scene has quickly grown – a recreational smoke lounge and dab bar has even been announced. Marquette’s local dispensaries generally operate between 9 AM and 9 PM, and curbside pickup is currently their ideal type of transaction due to COVID-19.
