With medical cannabis and recreational cannabis both being legal now in Montana, Kalispell marijuana laws don’t differ too much from the rest of the state. Since recreational cannabis passed only in November 2020 election in Montana, there’s still plenty we don’t know about many of the individual laws in each town regarding hours, locations and technical things that come along with legalizing cannabis recreationally. While we do know that on January 1, 2021, I-190 stated that adults 21 and over can possess up to 1 ounce of marijuana and grow several plants in the privacy of their own homes. The law also sets a timeline for Montana’s rollout of legal cannabis, but it’s a long one. Don’t expect to walk into a rec dispensary until 2022. Finally, the last thing that I-190 spell out is establishing a 20% tax on recreational marijuana products, dividing a little more than half the funds between the state general fund and various public programs.
