Carlsbad, New Mexico is located in the southeast corner of the state near the Texas border. The town is most well-known as the jumping-off point for Carlsbad Caverns National Park, which features sprawling caves and Rattlesnake Springs. While you’re in town, be sure to head to the Living Desert State Park is a unique zoo and botanic gardens. On a hot day, head to Lake Carlsbad Beach Park to enjoy a dip in the water. Unfortunately for those looking to purchase cannabis, Carlsbad is not too 420-friendly unless you have a medical marijuana card. The state of New Mexico legalized medical marijuana in 2007 but has yet to legalize recreational cannabis. However, New Mexico did decriminalize marijuana in 2019. There is just a $50 fine for those caught with less than a half-ounce but it is still considered illegal. Please note that it is also highly illegal to consume cannabis and drive or to smoke in public places, even with an MMJ card.
