Luckily for those wishing to toke up in New York, the state recently legalized cannabis for adult use! On March 31st, 2021, Governor Cuomo signed legislation to finally legalize recreational cannabis. While cannabis is now legal to possess for adults over 21, the recreational market remains to be put in place and is expected to be up and running by early 2023 at the latest. New York first legalized medical marijuana in 2014. For those with a valid MMJ card, there are a variety of dispensaries in the city to choose from, each with varying hours. It should be noted that although the state has been quite strict with cannabis in the past, it has been decriminalized, making possession and consumption of cannabis less illegal. Head to our New York State page for more information on the laws in the state.
