Burlington, Vermont is a picture-perfect example of the northeastern United States. Built along the coast of the stunning Lake Champlain and an hour south of the Canadian border (just two hours from Montreal), Burlington offers a gorgeous time to visitors and residents alike. Downtown, which hosts community-wide farmer’s markets in-season, is defined by old, well-kept brick buildings and walkable streets. From Jazz and holiday festivals to wine walks and a delicious local food scene, Burlington doesn’t disappoint. In addition to the town, the nearby lake is a source of constant activity. Boating, lake-side walkways and bike paths, and kayaking are all popular pass-times and weekend excursions. On top of all that, Burlington is surrounded by gorgeous forests and mountains for hiking in the summer and skiing in the winter.
Vermont also happens to be one of the 15 states with legal recreational marijuana. The state legalized medical marijuana in 2007 and recreational weed in 2018. However, it wasn’t until 2020 that Vermont passed a bill to finally set recreational regulation into motion. We likely won’t see recreational sales begin for at least another year, however; so, while it’s legal to possess up to an ounce of adult-use marijuana, there is currently no way to purchase it legally in Vermont. Adults at least 21 years old are allowed to grow up to two mature marijuana plants per household. There are several medical dispensaries throughout Burlington, however, which are generally open between the hours of 11:00 AM and 6:00 PM. Please note that it is illegal to smoke marijuana in public or to drive while under the influence of any amount of weed.
