Silver Spring, Maryland is located right outside Washington, D.C. and is surprisingly not actually an incorporated city! While it may not be a city itself, there is still plenty to do in Silver Spring and it feels like its own town. Brookside Gardens is a beautiful botanic garden with ponds and greenhouses, and Wheaton Regional Park offers trails and picnic areas to enjoy a sunny day. If you’re looking for some dinner or drinks, Downtown Silver Spring offers plenty of choices to pick from.
Unfortunately, Silver Spring is not the most cannabis-friendly city, as the city only allows medical marijuana sales. In 2017, Maryland’s medical marijuana program became fully operational, allowing any Maryland resident who has an approved medical condition certified by a participating physician to apply. If you’re not a medical patient or caregiver and the police catch you with less than 10 grams of marijuana, it’s only considered a civil offense subject to a fine of $100. But anything between 10 grams and 50 lbs is a misdemeanor subject to fines of $1000 and 1 year of jail time. Recreational marijuana has been legalized in D.C., but there are currently no storefronts open to purchase from.
