Contrary to mainstream belief, there are more places in the state of New York than just New York City! One of the many population centers outside of New York City is the beautiful city of Syracuse!
More than just home to the famous Syracuse Unversity and their incredibly successful sports teams, the city of Syracuse has been a long-standing hub of culture since the 1600s. While it’s long been a melting pot for different cultures and communities, today it’s a town full of history, beauty, museums, and historical districts, along with gorgeous outdoor attractions like the more than 50 state, county, and city parks hold.
Whether it’s the Oncenter War Memorial, the Everson Museum of Art, the Landmark Theatre, the Rosamond Gifford Zoo, or any attraction, Syracuse has a little bit of something for everyone. And as of last year, another one of the many reasons to visit legal cannabis!
Proof positive that the national perception of legal cannabis is perpetually growing, evolving, and changing, let’s take a moment to talk about one of the newest recreationally legal states, New York! Home to New York City, by far the largest population center in all of the U.S., the Empire State has recently joined the ever-growing list of legal cannabis states. Thanks to the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act in March 2021, recreational and medical adult-use cannabis is now perfectly legal!
And while it's true that all forms of cannabis use are now legal in New York, that doesn’t exactly tell the whole story! While medical cannabis has been alive and well in New York since 2014, recreational cannabis has only been legal since March 2021. With that in mind, recreational sales have yet to start in the Empire State. That means that to head into a dispensary in Syracuse, you’ll need a medical cannabis card of your own.
So while possessing up to three ounces of cannabis might be perfectly legal anywhere in New York, you’ll need to get it from the medical dispensary! So the next time you’re wondering around the Salt City looking for something to enjoy, whether it’s cannabis flower, vapes or battery-operated carts, edibles, tinctures, transdermal creams, or pretty much anything else you can pick up at a medical dispensary, consider grabbing a medical card of your own to get in on the action!
